About me
Annie Rockson's thirst for poetry began in primary school, with one of her poems receiving recognition from Cherie Blair at the age of 10. After being bullied for the majority of her life Annie developed social anxiety and depression which put most of her life on hold including her poetry.
Annie however realised that she had dreams bigger than her surroundings and refused to let her circumstances get the better of her. She began to throw herself into the activities that she once enjoyed and used poetry as an outlet for the voice she could not use in public. Since then Annie has gone on to achieve many things that at one point she thought was impossible. This includes filming a documentary for BBC's Dotun Adebayo MBE, being named as one of the top 100 black graduates and a Future Leader of 2012- 2013, meeting the Prime Minister at 10 downing street, performing her poetry at the House of Commons, working backstage as a journalist for the Screen Nation award show and participating in The 'Great Debate Tour' where she toured universities and featured among high profile panelists, discussing issues affecting young people. After experiencing the negative affects that social anxiety and depression can have. Annie is determined to help young people with their well - being through her self - help book which is currently being supported by Livity, Youth Media Agency and Movellas. After taking part in workshop 'Voices that Shake' Annie began to perform her poetry in February 2013. Annie's poems are best described as eclectic however her underlying themes are always about empowerment and the challenging of perceptions. Understanding how it feels like to not have a voice, she hopes her poems can empower audiences to build a more positive community. Annie is currently studying an MA in Human Rights at UCL which she hopes will provide her with rich content to use for her poetry. Visit the designer's website Search this site
